The VK 72.01 (K) is a reward tier 10 German heavy tank from clan wars. It is almost identical to the Pz.Kpfw VII tier 10 heavy tank aside from the 12.8 cm being replaced with a 15 cm. Unlike the E-100 and Maus the VK 72.01 (K)’s armor is situated almost entirely on the front of the tank. It also has a rear mounted turret making it an effective side-scraping tank. This guide is for World of Tanks VK 72.01 (K) weak spots and will help you tackle one on the battlefield. No matter the penetration on your tank you’ll find weak spots that will allow you penetrate this tank from any angle.
World of Tanks VK 72.01 (K) Weak Spots |Frontal View|
The toughest position to fight a VK 72.01 (K) is when it is pointing directly at you. Its front hull armor mostly ranges from 230mm to 300mm thick. The only tanks capable of going through the frontal hull are tier 9/10 tanks and even then it isn’t a sure thing. Most of the lower glacis sits at 263mm effectiveness and the flat section above sits at 300mm. The turret doesn’t have many weaknesses either with only two weak spots. The flat section next to the mantlet sits at 200mm-214mm effectiveness but is very small and hard to hit.
Moving up to the cupola you find it is very weak compared to the rest of the frontal armor. This only applies to the bottom most area since the top of the cupola sits above 307mm effectiveness. The cupola is also hard to hit the closer you are to the VK 72.01 (K). This is due to the rear mounted turret and height of the tank.
The weakest armor is actually found on the unique turret ring of the VK 72.01 (K). While tiny at close ranges the turret ring cheeks are easy to hit at mid ranges. If a VK 72.01 (K) driver angles any they open themselves up to easier shots on one side in this area. The part closest to the side hull only sits at 162mm effectiveness with the edge at 240mm. If you can’t hit the cupola or want to chance the lower plate this is your best bet at penetration.
World of Tanks VK 72.01 (K) Weak Spots |Side View|
Things start to unravel once you head away from the VK 72.01 (K)’s frontal armor. The side armor mostly sits below 222mm effectiveness. At tier 10 this makes most of the side armor easily damageable by even tier 8 tanks. The toughest areas are the angled bits on the turret front/roof/rear. Shooting lower on the side hull also sees the armor bump up by 40mm due to the track armor.
World of Tanks VK 72.01 (K) Weak Spots |Rear View|
Much like the side armor the VK 72.01 (K)’s rear armor is also weak. With its rear mounted turret you also face losing modules and crew members if you take rear shots. With most of the rear armor sitting below 193mm effectiveness it is easily the weakest area. Simply avoid hitting the angled sections on the turret, turret ring, and cupola area.
World of Tanks VK 72.01 (K) Weak Spots |Angled View|
The rear mounted turret makes the VK 72.01 (K) a good side-scraping tank. It can pop out quickly and not expose a lot of the tank around a corner. Unfortunately for the VK 72.01 (K) driver it leaves an extremely easy to hit area on the turret ring. Where the turret ring meets the upper side hull the armor is extremely weak and very easy to damage. If you are driving a VK 72.01 (K) you will want to keep angling to a minimum to keep this area protected.
