As many of you probably have seen already the VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. B is being significantly improved armor wise in the upcoming 9.2 patch that will be released on the NA server soon. The main changes for the VK 45.02 come to it’s frontal armor that prior to the changes was lacking at tier 9 since the tank was supposed to be capable of soaking up damage. Below are some illustrations that show the changes from 9.1 to 9.2 with a full break down of the VK 45.02 (P) Ausf. B’s armor.
The changes to the frontal armor are significant since it makes the VK 4502 immune to most tier 9 tanks and tier 10 tanks using standard ammunition. Even with normalization the frontal glacis armor areas will be immune to most shells fired head on and most people unaware will be puzzled why the VK 4502’s lower glacis is not a weak spot. The other major change is with the turret roof since it was buffed from 40mm to 60mm which makes it immune to most shells shot at it(barring the 183mm on the FV215b (183)) instead of being overmatched by 120mm shells.
The A1/A2 “machine gun” weak spot was also given a much needed buff and gained 50mm of armor taking it from 150mm to 200mm thick. The central area of A1 is still a weak spot compared to much of the other frontal armor however since it isn’t angled that much, with the weakest armor being on it’s lower half. Overall the changes still leave the VK 4502 some weak spots for lower tiers to exploit but it turns the tank from a punching bag to a steel wall and should thrust it easily to one of the better tier 9 heavy tanks.
Since the frontal armor was changed the angled armor of the VK 4502(which it does very well with) also gets a nice boost. It allows the tank to angle a little less to keep that weaker side armor at an auto-bounce level without having to worry to much about the frontal armor. VK 4502 drivers can simply angle 15-20 degrees now and be immune to almost any shells incoming unless they hit the frontal turret armor or a small weak spots.
The side armor of the Vk 4502 didn’t receive any changes from 9.1 to 9.2.
Just like the side armor the rear armor did not receive any changes from 9.1 to 9.2 aside from the small section of the turret roof going from 40mm to 60mm.
