The tier 5 American premium heavy tank T14 has been out for quite some time now and you see them here and there. Being at tier 5 means the T14 is a good entry level premium tank for most since it is in a very good tier and also costs much less than tier 8 premium tanks. So while the T14 doesn’t earn as much as tier 8 premium tanks it does provide a nice incentive for those not wanting to plop down massive amounts of gold into a single tank they may or may not enjoy.
Armor wise the T14 is very well equipped to take on most tier 5 and under tanks, but against tier 6 tanks it does leave some room for improvement against the tank destroyers/heavy tanks. For a full weak spot guide for the T14 you can go here (T14 Weak Spot Guide) which has the front, sides, and angled views labeled with corresponding armor values. While the T14 doesn’t have overwhelming armor besides some turret sections it does have a great overall armor scheme on the front and sides for protection. The frontal hull only has one major weak spot and the sides are covered with spaced armor that soak up a lot of shells. Combine the two and you have a tank that promotes a driver who can angle effectively to get the most out the T14
The gun on the T14 is the same gun which comes on the stock M4 Sherman. Yes, that is right….it shares the same gun as a stock medium tank in it’s tier. This might sound horrible but the 75mm equipped has decent DPM at 1733 with only a 100%/no equipment. The main thing lacking is penetration which makes fighting against tier 6 tanks a challenge at times. The gun is not very attractive but at the same time it gets the job well against tier 5 and lower tanks. This makes the T14 a great “bully” tank which can easily exploit its armor while picking apart most tanks but at the same time requires help for dealing with tier 6 tanks. Carrying a decent amount of APCR(for credits) does wonders since if you only use it to deal with the tier 6 tanks thinking you are an easy kill you still turn in a decent profit.
Looking at the stats the T14 does not seem like a very mobile tank with the speed limit capped at 34 km/h. On the other hand it does not weigh a ton and has a decent engine in it making it more mobile than most give it credit for. The T14 plays like a “heavy Sherman” and essentially like the M4A3E2 that comes at tier 6 but in a shorter package. You will not be able to keep up with every medium tank on your team but you are fast enough to get where tanks like the KV-1 cannot and do your damage before having to worry about running into low heavily armored tanks.
The gun depression the T14 like other American tanks is above average making hilly terrain your best friend. This allows you to exploit the very good turret armor and keep enemies at a comfortable distance as you get the edge up damage wise on them before they can flank you. One major downside of the T14 is the low view range at 330 meters which will be an issue if you push out on your own and cannot spot what is shooting at you. Crew perks like recon/situational awareness help as well with coated optics to counter this. Equipment wise(I had to take it off for the video above) I like to run a rammer, vents, and coated optics. The rammer/vents helps the somewhat lackluster gun and the optics helps with the low view range. Finally, the matchmaker for the T14 is limited so that you can only see tier 6 heavy/medium/tank destroyers at the highest. Most of your battles will be with you as the top tier since there are generally more tier 5 games than tier 6.

As touched on earlier the T14 is very mobile for a heavy tank and should be exploited. Use this speed to get to places where other tanks like the KV-1 cannot and this will allow you to bully lower tier/lightly armored tanks giving your team an upper hand on the more heavily armored ones. Sticking with your medium tanks/forward force will help turn the tides of those battles and then allow you to swing back to help out your heavy tanks. Never go toe to toe with a tier 6 with decent armor since you simply do not have the HP and firepower to deal with them alone.
Like other American tanks hilly terrain or any non-smooth terrain is your friend allowing you to hide your weaker hull and to survive longer. Your spaced armor on the sides also helps with soaking up HE/SPG fire effectively and it is key to learn how to angle effectively(check out the weak spot guide) to maximize your armor. If you simply sit pointing at an enemy and do not move they will be able to pick apart your weak spots easily….wiggling and angling will make hitting those places very difficult.
Good overall armor scheme
Less expensive than higher tier premium tanks
Lack of gun penetration
Low top speed
Low view range
Overall the T14 is a great tank for those looking for a less expensive premium tank that performs well enough not to be a negative. Stat wise it is a jack of all trades tank that proves to be valuable in just about every situation but does not excel at any specific area. In the end I give the T14 a 3.5/5 mainly because of the “just good enough gun” which limits the T14’s use for most players since it requires knowledge of a lot of weak spots. If you are up for learning or already know how to deal with most tier 5-6 tanks then the the gun will not be an issue but if you are still learning it can be frustrating playing the T14.
